Hi, I have a 2004 HONDA Civic ex sedan(Auto),when should I change my timing belt? I have heard that you should change the timing belt in every 100000Kms. but I don’t have any service recode with me.so Can a technician tel whether its bad or not by visually inspection it? :S

      Thanks Guys

It depends on the exact engine model, some stress the timing belt more than others. Look in the user’s guide in the glove box.

100,000Km is a good number. Mine broke at 121,000 miles. You don’t want to put it off that long. I was lucky and the valves were not harmed even though the belt broke on the highway. Cost me an extra $200 that way for a flatbed truck and a day’s lost wages.

It’s also a good time to get the water pump replaced, it usually is pretty well worn at that mileage and you save at least $100 bucks labor as the pump is right there int he open once they have the timing belt and covers off.

100k is a good mileage. inspect the belt for cracks or wear
to determine if it needs replacement. Also do the water pump
          at the same time.
