i have a 2004 accord with 109 on the clock and the issue i have is i kept getting multi check engine lights for misfires found out there was a reflash to the pcm to fix that issue but honda tells me it only was to help the computer rethink how it accepted the misfires which i think is bs

PCV valves are rarely a problem but I’m happy to hear that you are using an OE unit. Also I don’t think that’s going to effect your fuel economy at all but the EGR will.
January 16, 2012 at 11:00 am #439094would it cause the vehicle to use more fuel on one bank then the other ? thats seemed a little odd to me and whats even odder is when i was heading home that day it didnt have any problem getting to 70 for the freeway floored to the ground lol .thanks again every one
January 17, 2012 at 11:00 am #439097Alright well keep us posted on your progress.
January 17, 2012 at 11:00 am #439098will do plan on getting the pcv tomorrow and redoing the cleaning and hoping that helps .plan on using some tax money to get it lifted and hopefully the timing belt
January 18, 2012 at 11:00 am #439099I ran across this DIY for cleaning the EGR passages. The car shown is a 2003 Pilot, but very similar if not equal to your 2004 Accord. Hope this helps. Note that amount of carbon built-up on the Pilot is nowhere near what your picture indicated. Keep us posted on the affect to your gas mileage.http://www.piloteers.org/forums/18-maintenance/25692-diy-intake-manifold-egr-port-cleaning.html
January 18, 2012 at 11:00 am #439100thanks again i hope to get it taken care of when the rain where supposed to get pass and i can go out there and clean it fully

Nope, flip it over and you will see the EGR passage. I did this job for friends V6 with 130K miles on it and EGR passage was completely blocked. Honda has TSB that tells you to get a kit, drill the hole bigger and drive a pipe. But after analysing, I found this steps to be unnecessary. All it needs is cleaning. You can make the hole bigger, but it won’t make the problem go away.
Looking at the DTC codes, everything you have is misfire of cylinders. So I am suspecting that blocked EGR passage isn’t going to cause this. Is your TCS light stays on when check engine light flashes? I am suspecting that this has something to do with a bad ignition coil – which can be difficult to diagnose. If this is happening all the time you want to do non-contribution test – basically remove one coil at a time and listen for engine sound change. If engine sound does not change after disconnecting a coil, then the coil you just disconnect isn’t working properly.

That is the link to the TSB for the EGR port issue.
Usually it will set a CEL if it is that bad.
Also, if you do have an inoperative EGR system, the vehicle will misfire. At idle, if the EGR valve was stuck open, it would misfire at idle. If the EGR is stuck closed, it will misfire at cruising speeds due to o2 taking the place of inert gasses from the exhaust.
All 6 cylinders on that engine are misfiring.
Looking at that diagnostic sheet for the freeze frame data for cylinder number 1 misfire, the STFT on both banks are at 0 which is very odd.
I would look into the EGR port issue, look at fuel pressure and check for vacuum leaks also.
If you want to test the ignition coils, you would need to stress test them under a load with an adjustable ignition tester.
January 19, 2012 at 11:00 am #439104Actually those are the EGR ports in the picture you posted, you also need to clean the passages in the upper cover also if there are any but by the looks of it your engine is pretty clean inside. That being the case you might want to do a power balance test because sometimes those coils have an issue and the test is easy enough to perform.
January 19, 2012 at 11:00 am #439105thank you every one your guys are a great help. i will look into all of this when the weather gets better being i dont have a garage to work in. the odd thing is i cant get it to throw the codes again its running fine after i half ass cleaned it . im taking my best beat is take the whole intake off so i can clean it better ?and clean the passages on the block? can i take the egr off and spray it or should i not touch it just in case. man im glad i dont have the older style like in that link that seems like a pain in the ass lol
January 19, 2012 at 11:00 am #439106lol i watched your video again eric on the power balance test and it reminded me of when i was at kragen me and one of the other managers whould trick people with the msd coil/ignition set up where you could should how much spark it would make with theres over oe and with it turned up and we would trick people on low and have then touch it it shocked like hell and the manager jeff we dared on half way being he was a ex greed beret im sure you can guess what happened mext shocked the hell out him it was priceless needless to say it was put up high on the self in the office

If it were me I would leave the upper intake on the car and clean per the link provided. Would not hurt to remove the EGR and clean. Just be careful with the gasket when removing. The other link provided for the intake cleaning and drilling was for a 1998-2002 V6 Accord so your setup is different as you mentioned.
January 20, 2012 at 11:00 am #439108thats what i figured i mean other then not noticing those small holes on the upper i cleaned every thing else i would say ok fueled up today be a while being i normally drive maybe 4 miles a day just to bring my mom to work and back home .dang rain keeping me from getting test done .fingers crossed
January 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #439109Yea you don’t need to remove the entire intake and if the light hasn’t come back then perhaps you can put this one to bed.
