Hey guys, I wont have access to All Data until Monday morning and a dear friend to me is having car troubles. i am about to go over to his house and hook up my scanner to abstract the DTC’s. It seems pretty simple and straight foreword but in my short time of mechanicing I have learned that when it looks simple and you let your guard down is when you get into trouble fast. With that being said I am defiantly going to disconnect the negative terminal but should i hook up one of those memory savers for any important presettings? I don’t care about radio stations, I am more worried about more important functions like the ECM freaking out on the throttle body position sensor. If this is preposterous please forgive me but I am in my first year of school and my electrical I instructor is meticulous about getting the info from All Data before disconnecting the battery (and with good cause). Thanks in advance!!!

Honestly, if the key is out and the vehicle is off, replacing that sensor should not be a problem as there would be no power to it when you disconnect it. You might be more concerned with the fuel pressure in the system when you go to remove the sensor. To eliminate that, you can disable the ignition system and crank the engine for a few seconds, this should bleed the pressure off before you start work. It may be hard to start after you’re done however due to lack of fuel psi and possible flooding. Normally not too much of an issue though.

That said, don’t put the cart in front of the horse here. Make sure you verify the issue before you go replacing parts.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Okay, Eric…your awesome thank you. I went this morning and hooked up my scanner to verify the complaint and my scanner pulled a P0190 code from the ECM. So I was able to get a new sensor in and went ahead and changed his inline filter in under 20 minutes. It was really good to repay him for all his kindness as the local shop wanted over $400!!! After i changed it, I went in to erase the code but didn’t have to. Thanks again Eric!
