Eric and guys – I bought this truck new in 2005 as a 2004 leftover. A few months after driving the truck the check engine light came on. I took it to the local Ford dealer and they ran a diagnostic and said something about CO2 or O2 readings around the intake. They said this was a common occurrence with the F150 and that since the truck was operating well and no other issues, they suspected a gasket replacement might be the trick except that it only worked 50% of the time – according to them, replacing the gasket in question was equally likely to create a new leak as prevent one. They were willing to do it but gave me the choice and I said no. So I have driven the truck 10 yrs with the check engine light on. No issues getting thru inspection for tag renewals etc.

I noticed that whenever I disconnected the battery the check engine light would be gone for a day or two but always comes back on. What would you guys do?

Read the error codes and fix what’s brok? Every time you disconnect the battery, it resets ECM. Then it picks the problem again. So something is causing it.

Yes thank you. I know something is causing it – explained in original post – according to Ford service center (they hooked it up to their computer) they think it a minor leak around the air intake or something like that they told me. They didn’t seem to think the repair was worth the trouble because they said it was probably a gasket and replacing the gasket was a 50/50 proposition because the new gasket could leak as well. Whatever the cause must be minor since I have run the truck like this for 10 yrs. Anyway, thanks again.

I had my indicator light going on and off every few days. It turned out I had a bad gas cap. The dealer checked both o2 sensors for proper voltage? If so, and you haven’t checked all your fuses-start there(simple to do). When I started swapping in aftermarket lighting LEDs, HIDs I blew many fuses in doing so which than caused further issues-Good luck
