For as long as I can remember, I’ve seen this code on my 2004 Chrysler Sebring.

It seems to alternate between P0440 and P0441… sometimes both. Not only that, but the code actually does disappear on its own at times. Even more strange, is that around my time of inspection (late fall) the code seems to clear up just in time — weather change from hot to warm or some kind of pressure changes helping me out? Either way, it’s back before winter starts.

Based on my research, I’m not sure it’s hurting anything performance-wise, though correct if I’m wrong?

I’ve thrown one part at it, a purge solenoid, which did not do the trick. Hey, it was easy to get to and pretty cheap — thought it was worth a shot.

The service manual leads me to believe this would be an easy one for a person with a DRB tool to run down, though I’ve read vehicles with similar problems being a bear to get this code to go away for. I keep seeing references to the NVLD switch and charcoal canister being likely culprits, though it could be as simple as a hose.

      Any thoughts, guys?

Thanks, but I was hoping for info specific to the vehicle or similar vehicles.

It may not be specific to vehicle but it’s a good general way to go about diagnosing the problem. Unfortunately I don’t have any easy answers for you. Evap codes can be hard to track down without the proper equipment.

I dont think it would be an issue with a hose, its not one of the leak codes. I occasionally get the same P0441 on my 07 Chrysler Town and Country Touring. I have 8 months to track the fix down before our next inspection, thankfully this code is not a performance robbing one.

The evap system is hard to diagnose problems on without the proper equipment and knowledge of how the system operates as well as the correct testing procedures.

My experience with intermittent faults on Chryslers has been caused by evap system hoses and connections. Hoses get fine splits in them that are temperature sensitive. A bad fuel cap can also cause the problem.

I usually pressurize the system and spray with soapy water to find them.
