i have another fun one from a friend of mine. he’s having issues with his cruise control on his 04 chevy 1500 5.3 4×4. earlier today he pulled his fish house off of the lake and had to beat on his truck pretty good to get it out. After he pulled his house off the lake he tried to use his cruise control and it doesnt work. he said when he turns it on the cruise light flickers for a second then turns off. i dont think beating on it would have a direct effect on it, i think it was more of a coincidence but he still wants it figured out. i was thinking maybe a brake pedal switch starting to go bad but im not sure, i dont have much experience with cruise control diagnostics. any thoughts or test procedures appreciated.

Try unplugging the brake switch and see if the cruise comes back.

In addition if you have a CEL on then that can also effect the cruise depending on the system effected. For instance, if there’s a transmission problem the cruise will not activate.
Keep us posted on what you find.
i finally got a chance to look at it yesterday. it was the brake switch. the first thing i had him do was hit the brake to see if the lights came on but they were all out. im not sure why it was making the cruise light flicker but i put a new one in and now it works fine. thanks for the replies and the link.
