Hey folks – About 8 weeks ago I replaced the left rear brake caliper on my 2004 Avalon. Now I have to top off the brake fluid every 600 miles or so. I finally had time to visually inspect the system this morning and found that my caliper was damp with oil. I turned down the 14mm nut where the brake line goes in even though it was already pretty snug. What did I do wrong, or do I possibly have a bad caliper from AZ? I’ve 99% sure the brake line feeder nut is not cross threaded. Maybe the extra 3/4 turn I gave it today will solve the problem? Open to suggestions and ideas. Pictures are included for a visual aid.

      Thanks in advance

I thought they use a coper metal gasket for seal it from leaks… if you undid the line you should of replaced the gasket and that might of been it… I would check with the dealer and see what if any spacer is in there first and then you might hace to replace it and re blead the brakes agian

There should be a copper crush washer on each side of the banjo fitting. If you reused the old ones when you replaced the caliper, you can try replacing them with new ones.

Thanks Evil-I, can always count on you for great advice. I suspect I reused the old ones. Will look to get new ones and replace and also contact the dealer as suggested by Rob781.

            Thanks guys!

I don’t think so as it was dry all the way around and up but I will check it to be sure when I replace the crush washers. As I’m a novice at some of this, I didn’t realize those were crush washers on the bango bolt. I suspect that I didn’t get them back on the same way they were prior to me replacing the caliper and thus they didn’t get seated properly. Now that I know that I will pay more attention next time but for this job probably best to just get new ones.

                Thanks again

**RESOLVED** Thanks all who replied. Once I cranked down a bit harder on the nut the existing crush washer worked and it’s no longer leaking. Lesson learned, again.
