      Hi Eric,

I have watched several of your youtube videos and they seem to be very detailed and knowledgeable. So I would to hear your opinion on this one and just to give me some possible hints

I have a 2004 Acura TL (manual transmission) and the clutch is almost gone and since I was doing the front suspension decided it is a perfect time to replace the clutch. The service manual says to drop the transmission from the bottom, but then I came up with this “great” idea to actually remove the whole engine with the transmission attached which might give me an opportunity to change the timing belt etc while the engine is out.

Looking down, appears that there are a few things to disconnect and my idea was to remove the engine-transmission from the TOP. Pulling it up with a chain and cherry-picker. From what I can see right now appears I will be able to lift it up as the engine-transmission will clear the body, but I am missing something?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Everything is meant to come out from the bottom. I have read people
pulling everything from the top, but you need to have a good swivel to
do it. If it were me I would pull the trans and remove the engine from the
        top.

Thank you much for your reply! I wanted to take the whole engine/transmission assembly out to make it easier to separate them on the ground instead of in the vehicle. I might try with the cherry picker first and see how it goes!

So here is an update. We were able to remove the engine and transmission as one assembly from the top. There was plenty of room (over an inch) on each side so this was an easy removal. It is a bit tricky to remove the bolt that holds the rear engine mount but with a 14mm wrench it is doable. Anyone interested to see the pictures, let me know. Thanks.

Glad you got this solved. I’ve actually shot a video on this procedure that will be out in the next few months. That said, there’s a couple of ways to go about it. They way you did it is one way. If I were just changing the clutch however, I would use an engine brace to hold the engine in place and drop the front support. It’s actually designed to come out that way. I’ve also taken the engine and transmission out this way as well.

Glad you got it sorted. The video I mentioned will be out in the next couple of months. Should be fun to watch based on your experience.
