Hey guys,
Lemme give you the details of the vehicle and the exact problem:
2003 3.8 Chrysler Town & Country LX
3 Zone Manual AC system
10s20 denso compressorProblem:
AC clutch / fans not engagingDiagnostic path so far:
– AC system evacuated & refilled to 1.220 g of refrigerant, as per manufacturer’s sticker
– replaced worn AC clutch with new one
– replaced AC clutch relay, previously used jumpers to bypass, read out voltages and resistances at pins, all seem normal, verified clicking on AC button press
– replaced AC pressure switch / pressure transducerThis van came to me in early February and was in a bad state. Front suspension was bad, massive amounts of electrical problems, poor state of maintenance in general. With most problems fixed now, we’re down to something rather puzzling.
When you turn on the vehicle with all the steps above already in place, the engine RPM goes up by about 200 to 300 rpm and stays there. Also, there is a click in the relay, and pins 30 to 87 measure out @ 13 V. I am therefore pretty certain the PCM registers the button being depressed in the cabin, however neither the AC clutch nor the fans engage. If only one of them would be the culprit, it would be easy to follow the error, but with both of them failing at the same time, especially after the clutch, the pressure transducer and the freon levels were all fixed, I am a bit confused as to where to go from here.
Would much appreciate a suggestion for further steps.
