      Ok, Some of you whom follow the ETCG facebook have seen this come up here and there on the page… my 03 T&C likes to bog down around 40-45MPH and I’ve done EVERYTHING I can think of to fix it… the symptoms- Accelerating very moderately the car will accelerate normally until you hit 40MPH, then the RPM’s drop down to 1000 and sometimes below, the car will make a vibrating sound and at times will shudder and shake. Stepping on the accelerator pedal will make it run fine and go normally, but if you let up or go back to where you were before the car will lug down again and try to stall, which it has not done yet….

      on the list of things I’ve done:

      intake-upper and lower gaskets replaced (fun job)

      New TPS,

      Fixed a couple vac leaks,

      New plugs, Wires, Coil

      Cleaned intake, intake runners

      new MAP

      Propane pencil test checking for intake leaks

      Transmission shop 3 times to check for an over locking Torque converter (no faults)

      Brand new set of injectors (x6)

      Ispected the injection harness.

      Fuel pressure check…

      I’d like to fix this… I get the P0301 Code sometimes others are P0300/03 other things I’ve noticed the OBD reader changes my Fuel system status to OL-Drive CL-Fault CL-drive…. Any ideas would be greatly apprciated….

        We like when you post detailed information about a problem but there is such a thing as too much information. 🙂

        That said there are a couple of things I see. The first is that you have a misfire code. Anytime you have a performance issue and a CEL always start with diagnosing the CEL. Misfires are pretty general and they have many possible causes. I know you’ve replaced a lot of parts but in some ways this may work against you so forget about all that for now and start from scratch.

        I also see that it looks like it’s taking away fuel in the fuel trim numbers. This could indicate incomplete combustion caused by an ignition misfire or mechanical issue. Never rule out a mechanical problem when dealing with performance issues.

        This article covers the steps I take when dealing with a performance issue like this. Also, I know you say you’ve taken it to the transmission shop, but ignore that too. It might still be a transmission problem that has nothing to do with the TCC. Therefore I’m also going to post my article about solving transmission problems to give you some things to check.

          I have an idea that part of the problem you have is a transmission problem even though you had it checked. Try driving around in 3rd gear instead of OD to see if you still have a problem.

            Driving around in 3 relieves the symptoms somewhat. It still tries to bog out bit it’s 98% better. This was a engine/trans swap from another van… Someone told me the TCU could be the wrong one. Mine had a towing package from the dealership.. This one might not be set for that… Dunno.

              It’s possible the module needs to be reflashed. Chrysler transmissions should also be relearned after the battery has been disconnected. You would need to find someone with a Chrysler scan tool to do a reflash.

                    Thanks for the replies. The dealer$hip wants 200.00 to flash the computer. I’m going to disconnect the battery after I get my window fixed and retrain the trans and see if that helps… That is the cheaper of the two currently.

                        I’ve yet had the oppertunity to have the computers reflashed, but I have found out what was going on. instead of grabbing the next gear, the trans is attempting to grab 2, hence the bogging down. It’s a computer glitch. I will report back after the programming is done

                            The plot thickened and then Congealed.

                            So, I took it in for flashing. they told me the solenoid pack was leaking. Replaced it (they are PROUD of that solenoid pak….) Van STILL bogs down despite the ‘fix’ they did NOT flash the computer as I asked…. so it goes again tomorrow and I’m leavign the son of samuel there til they fix it…

                              Somehow my prior attempted posting here didnt work.

                              They love to change the solenoid pack– it’s easy, pays good flat rate and they tell you a new seal isn’t available separately so you need a whole pack. Honestly the leak is more of a nuisance than relevant to performance and you can get just the seal for about $12 aftermarket. But at least you know the solenoid pack is good now I guess. They should have done a “quick learn” on your tranny after replacing the pack (but likely skipped it to save time)– that’s not a programming update, but just quickly gets the adaptive settings for the clutch volumes in range. They will not be able to reprogram your TCM unless an update is available.

                              A dealer should be able to:

                              1) check clutch volumes to see if they’re in spec (using scan tool)
                              2) check TCM for codes
                              3) use chryslers transmission simulator to check that the wire harness is good (part of the harness hangs down under the tranny and often takes curb damage)
                              4) perform actual pressure tests at the test ports on the tranny to see if the hydraulic circuits are functioning properly.

                              The thing is, they probably have no clue how to use their own tools (which is why I started buying Chrysler tools myself to fix my cars.)

                                  Good luck, but it ought to give you a hint that the first time you brought it in they went out in left field and did something completely unrelated to your complaint or request. Feel that vacuum forming in your wallet?

                                  IMO– dealers tend to have a culture created by the car sales side of things which is focused on extracting as much of your money as possible before you can get out the door. I’m not blaming the techs, but your “service rep” is likely a salesman who is used to pretending that he actually knows something about cars (kind of like most of the counter guys at an AutoZone). Since he doesn’t know anything about fixing cars, he doesn’t know how to communicate your concerns to the techs and how to evaluate the feedback he gets from the techs on your vehicle (assuming he’s even trying to do so.)

                                  I fix my own cars because I hate dealing with this kind of BS, but I also know exactly where I would take my car if I wanted someone else to fix it in my town. There are probably exceptional dealers, but after warranty work is over, you are much more likely to get good service from an independent shop that is owned and operated by a mechanic. The shop will preferably charge you and pay its staff by the hour. The owner will be happy to talk to you and listen to your concerns. When you find the place you like and that treats you right, stick with them.

                                  Think about it– $500 at a place where they’re supposed to be the experts and all they did was fix a leak that was irrelevant to your problem. Anyone with any professional pride would be embarrassed.

                                  Can you get what you want out of them? It’s like a bad relationship– not worth it. If I were you, I’d cut my losses and run.

                                    Solenoid pack leaks are a very common issue on Chrysler transmissions. I have replaced a dozen or so myself but I have never seen one leaking cause a shifting issue unless the trans was low on fluid. If a reflash doesn’t help the TCM/PCM or transmission could have an internal problem.
