      what does it mean when its on ? i try a new battery new alternator cleaning all wire Connections and yes it charging

          It could also be the alternator itself. The circuit for that light is often contained in the voltage regulator assembly. Some ‘cheaper’ alternators don’t use very good parts for this and it can sometimes be an issue. The way to verify it is to check the actual voltage output. It could also be wiring or a connection problem. The details of all of that are in the article College man posted above.

            when i bought this van for $600 with a knocking motor but all the lights where off i wasn’t worried about the motor because i had a good motor out of 1997 Pontiac transport a different senser and intake where different and alternator so used the parts of the 03 put on the 97 motor runs great but the battery light is on now the new battery i put it form my 1979 Chevy pickup could the battery to small?

              I don’t remember what year but GM started using a PCM controlled charging system but if the alternator you installed has a built in regulator that could be the problem.

              Check with an auto parts store to see if both years used the same replacement alternator part number.

                Can confirm some GMs are picky. Also on cheaper models the alternator might not properly send the 5v signal to the PCM, triggering the light.
