the head gasket and intake gaskets went bad on the car, it was drove 1 mile after it started smoking out of the exhaust.

I replaced the gaskets and followed everything necessary to do the job correct.

When the car started smoking out of the exhaust, it had a miss, at 1200 rpm or less, anything over it would run fine, just low power.

after the repair, its the same thing, it has a miss at idle, and anything under 1200 rpms.

i decided to try the “dollar trick” and when it misfires, it sucks the piece of paper against the exhaust.

from my understanding its a damaged exhaust valve, however they checked out fine, and the whole 1200 rpm+ the miss disappears.

Its the GM 3400, unknown miles (bought the car used after it had a engine swap).

any ideas would be appreciated, i am hoping i do not have to tear it down again.

      thanks for any help!

This should help with fuel pressure and checking injectors.

so i pulled the fuel rail off, and checking #1 injector, it is only spraying out of one of the two holes on the bottom of the injector.

one of them sprayed for a moment when ignition was turned on, but wouldnt do it again after pressure built up.(leaking)

i used ScanXL, and found the cylinder 1 misfired 68 times and cylinder 4 8 times(in a 5 minute period), checked the coil and the coil for 1/4 was arcing yellow.

replaced that and the misfire went away about 50 percent.

now checking the fuel injectors resulted in #1 seemingly only working about half. i am assuming this would cause a misfire.

i still intend on checking the compression, once i can get down there.

but from what i am understanding i should replace the #1 injector, it has that “white” stuff on the bottom of it, along with some of the other parts from cylinder one where the head gasket went bad. ive tried spraying cleaner through it and cycling the sprayer(pressurized by the cleaner can) and it is still only spraying out of one hole.

It does sound like you’ve got a bad injector there. Did you replace the fuel injector or the coil? I was confused by your last post.

An easy way to find misfires which was in the article I linked for you.

when i did the test, the #1 cylinder made no difference, while the rest did.

i replaced the coil, and the car runs alot better, the engine isn’t shaking, it almost ran just like it did before the head gasket failed.
But, still running the code for Cyl. 1 misfire. (takes much longer for the code to pop up after coil replacement)

i then checked the injector and it seemed to be in need of cleaning/replacement. with it only functioning 50%

i am waiting on the new (reman) injector to come in the mail.

i am just confused about how a bad head gasket could damage the coil and the fuel injector.

how would the water/antifreeze have gotten into the intake, let alone enough to damage the injector?

still leaves me with the coil going bad,

a complete guess would be it was going bad before all that happened, and that could be part of the reason for the bad gas mileage before the head gasket failed completely.

thanks again for any input, and all the advice already given.

Replaced the Fuel Injector, and everything is good.

                the misfire is gone!!!!

however i have run into a problem finding the bolts for the crossover pipe, any help on that?

thanks again for all your help!
