My car used to shake very hard when shifting from park to drive, so my mechanic replaced two engine mounts and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Now my car shakes when i turn the key to start, and it sounds like the car is having trouble starting. Sounds like it cranks 3-5 times and finally starts. I can hear a loud, metallic-like noise coming from either under me, or from the back of the car.

I should also mention that recently, the car didnt let me shift from park to any gear after i started it, so i had to turn the car off and then start it again a couple times until it would let me shift to any other gears. Another time, the car wouldnt let me shift from drive to reverse or park. It let me shift up to neutral, and down to 1, 2, and 3, but wouldnt let me go up past neutral to park the car. when it did this, the key wouldnt go all the way to the “lock” position, and i was unable to take the key out. So i stayed in the car for around 10 minutes, turning it off and on again until it finally let me put the car in park take the key out.

This car also had a parasitic draw problem, i found that the problem was coming from a 10A “room lamp” fuse. So i have been driving with the fuse out, because i dont want the battery to die. With the fuse out, two lights light up on the dash, the “open door” light, and the “open trunk” light. With the fuse in, both lights are off.

Really worried about this shaking, and slightly worried about the fact that the car has trouble shifting gears occasionally.

The car is also making a different noise than it used to.

When accelerating between about 1500-1900 RPM, the noise very loud, and sounds like i modified the car to sound louder.
If i accelerate to above 2000 RPM, the noise goes back to normal volume.

My car used to have a loud, constant tick coming from the engine, but it seems to have been replaced, or is at least now accompanied by this loud engine noise.

Have you checked the trans mount?

How high is you idle? The hard shifting could cause this problem. I know I have this car can fixed this problem.

It would really help to be a video on this. Mine has 220,000 miles on it with not to many problem just oil leaks. to many to mention. But it is a extremely reliable car.

idle is around 1000 rpm, and i will try to get a video tomorrow, as it is already dark outside.

just to be clear, the hard shifting was solved when i got the engine mounts replaced. the hard movement only occurs when i start the car, the shift from park to drive is smooth.

I have not checked the transmission mounts, how would they cause the shaking on car start up? the shaking when shifting gears was solved when i had the engine mounts replaced.

No check engine light? You should set one for the idle being out
of range. Did you clean or unplug the throttle body? Have you checked
                for vacuum leaks?

                  No check engine light.

Is 1000 Rpm idle out of range?

I have not cleaned or unplugged the throttle body. How do i go about doing that?

I have also not checked for vacuum leaks, how do i do that?

Sorry if I sound needy, i am pretty new at this DIY thing.

Thanks for all the help so far.

It sounds to me like the exhaust system is banging somewhere under the car. With the new mounts installed the exhaust might be closer to something and is banging while starting.

Yeah, that would make sense, since i do hear some banging from under the car towards the back, as well as from the front.
However, i had the engine mounts replaced last summer, and this banging only just started now.

I take it this is an automatic? Target idle on this car is 675+or
minus 50 1000 is to high. does the car come up to temp? I posted
the vacuum leak check. can you see the video? how many miles on the
car? don’t disconnect the throttle body. It will cause a problem.

Yes, the car is an automatic.

What do you mean by “does the car come up to temp”?

Car has 136766 miles on it.

I cant see the video, could you post a link please?

                          Thanks again.

Yes college man is 100% right, DO NOT unbolt the throttle body. It WILL cause more problems. If you chose to clean the TB do it on the vehicle. It is possible to adjust the idle but turning the screw counterclockwise. As for the motor mounts what kind did you use? I have had “customers” chose to put the cheap chinese ones on and it only lasted them about a year or so before coming back. 136,766 is low miles, smell the trans fluid to see if it is burned

Does the car run at operating coolant temp. is the temp
or gauge where it needs to be?

Yes, sorry, the temperature is good, just under the halfway mark, more towards the cool side.

The engine mounts cost about 500 between the two of them, so i dont think they were cheap, although i cant recall what brand they were.

I also smelled the dipstick that goes into the transmission fluid, and it doesnt smell burned.

I actually rechecked my idle RPM, and it looks to be a little under 1000, kind of between the 500 and 1000, so i think my RPM is actually accurate.

I just noticed that the car is making a sort of squeaking noise that can be heard from the back wheels. I got the noise on video, but i am having trouble uploading them. hopefully i can get them up before the end of the day.
