My brother has a 2003 lancer es 2.0l. It has had a problem with idle recently where it would intermittently rev high and then come back down to normal.

The other day when he puts firm pressure on the gas pedal it would lose all power until he released the pedal. It would randomly die at idle.

There was a code p0123, throttle/pedal position sensor high voltage. We replaced the sensor and it worked initially but the symptoms are back, now worse.

When the car is in park at idle it runs fine, in drive it dies immediately after giving it gas. Same code p0123.

We’re not sure what to do, any help will be appreciated.

        What sensor did you replace?

We replaced the throttle position sensor, on the back of the throttle body near the firewall

            1. How many wires run to sensor?
            2. Did you set sensor, sometimes you have to back probe wires and set
            3. Did you verify power supply at connector to TPS?
            4. Clear codes then tell me how car runs and also how long it takes for code to return

There are 3 wires going to the connector.
I didn’t see any way to set the sensor, not sure how to.
I tested the wires with the vehicle keyed on but engine off, when the plug is unplugged, 5v constant wire, there is a constant 0.05v and another 0.05v. When plugged in I backprobed the wire and the signal wire went from .5v at sitting to 3.7v wide open throttle.
we haven’t had a chance to re-test drive it yet since we have another car that needs work but now it was showing a p0122 code for low voltage.

Since you have new TPS lets assume its good. You need to search how to set tps 2004 lancer and follow instructions. I have set TPS on other cars and it can be a PITA so be patient. If TPS is not set car does not know how to idle. Report back the results.
