The rear passenger side sliding door does not close automatically. It will start to close but then pops back open. If you manually close it the door will stay closed but not lock, so if you hit a bump it will open; even if you are on the highway.

Have you tried cleaning and lubricating the track? There is a current monitoring circuit on the motor so that if the door hits an obstacle while closing it will reverse (for passenger safety). If there is a lot of resistance to sliding it can also cause an increase in current draw “appearing” to the monitoring circuit that an obstacle has been encountered. If a clean and lubricated track doesn’t cure it, then the motor could be getting old and weak. Old motors draw more current than new ones, so the same reversing symptom appears.

What can I use to lubricate and clean the track with? Also, the door still will open when manually closing it. Would this still indicate a poor motor?

Clean with a good all-purpose cleaner. Spray silicone or white lithium grease for lubrication. A weak motor will not change the way the door works when operated manually.

As for the latch not closing fully, try this:

As unlikely as this might be, if it’s the same problem it may be an easy fix: my son’s 2000 Odyssey passenger sliding door had not opened or closed automatically for months, and it took some heft to open it manually. We took a look at the track & cable and nothing seemed to be amiss or binding. Given the other things we still had to do on the car, we decided the sliding door was for another day and pulled it closed.

One of those other things was cleaning the battery, so off came the cables for about 20 minutes. After reconnecting and finishing up he happened to hit the door switch… and it opened, smooth as silk.

Turned out to be the center latch. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the update. This video shows some of the details of the system if you have issues again in the future. Also, I believe there’s additional information in the description.
