      2003 CRV, UK built. 110k

I have a strange noise I can’t pin down. Made several videos below. It seems like its from one of the accessories. At first I thought engine trouble but that doesn’t seem to be the case as power is unaffected. Its most obvious at low RPM and it comes and goes which is stranger still.

      Short video: https://vid.me/hsNg
      8 Minutes W/ Acceleration and A/C on: https://vid.me/WhVT
      Underside by the pulleys: https://vid.me/tlUW
After I did valve adjustment: https://vid.me/3Uhy

Speaking of that… Don’t know if I did a bang up job since its my first one. I made sure it was loose vs tight, esp on the exhaust. Video was great except drag and what fits changes based on how you angle the feeler gauge in. If I followed the video I could put a larger feeler in from the side. Might have to pay someone to do it right, how much should it cost? For now I’m safe from burnt valves while the bigger fish fry.

I got a stethoscope still inconclusive.

          Can hear it in:
          Alternator – fair bit
          p/s pump – fair bit
          tensioner – a little
          oil pan/engine block – somewhat
water pump… can’t really get at it. I turned the car off and pulled on it, there is some play in/out wit the belt on
          a/c clutch/compressor – its really clear here

so my only other options would be take off the belt like you said and/or buy the short belt to cut the a/c out of the loop and see if the problem remains.
          I don’t know what’s worse here:
water pump – pain in the ass job
a/c – my first car with working a/c in a decade, WTF?
camsaft bearings, etc – car is toast, I’m fckd

Did that today, goes away along with a bunch of vibrations. It practically purrs with no accessories.

SO I also wobbled the water pump by hand, it doesn’t leak. Car doesn’t overheat.
Stethoscope really points at the A/C pulley and it sounds loudest there..

              So IDFK…

I guess I should look for a water pump and a decent aftermarket engine mount on that side since I have to take it off to do the pump 🙁

yes but now you no it is not in the motor. so win you say you wobbled the water pump pulley you mean it is wobbling if so it is def BAD

I an wobble the water pump pulley by hand but I can”t re create the noise out of either pulley. The bearing must be screwed up, the tensioner moves back and forth adjusting the belt constantly and it does look wobbly when spinning with the belt on. Could it really unbalance the whole engine like that?

But I can”t rule out the A/C either unless it was really good at transmitting the water pump noise. The clutch engages, I can’t wobble it by hand and it seems smooth spinning it as far as I can tell.

It would suck to change the pump and still have the noise and no a/c. It was cooling a month ago for sure but now I can’t’ tell with certainty, too cold outside.

There was no noticeable play in the balancer.. At least not that I could find by hand.

Noise got worse though and seems like that pump is moving more after a 400 mile drive.. I”m def. stuck changing it. At the least its probably putting extra load on the engine and could be damaging the other pulleys if Im not wrong.

Changed it out, noise is gone. The one I ordered did not fit, the impeller was too big and the bolts didn’t all line up. I had to walk to the auto parts store and put it together at night. Lost 2 bolts but nothing is leaking so I’m probably ok.

I have 4 new engine mounts and get vibration at idle now 🙁 I could tell because vibes increased as I was replacing them 1 by one over time. I even torqued them to spec, what gives. Thought it was just the other mounts not being new but only the front is left and looks ok.

What mounts did you use? Not all are perfect, but on my Accord when I replaced the mounts, I used anchor the first go around and made the car feel awful. The OEM’s seemed better and they had 196k on them.

ebay mounts which may have been the mistake. The first one I bought was great, the other ones after not so much. My old mounts were almost better. I think the rear trans is the one where I should go OEM or a better reviewed one. The cheapo liquid filled mount got better a tiny bit after driving and the rear is still crap after weeks, I don’t think its breaking in any time soon.

~$100 per OEM mount seems like some serious pain tho
