Need some help replacing ball joint and cv axle on passenger side. The axle won’t come out of the tran case, the ball joint had broke causing the axel with inner bearings to come out leaving the inner hub(?) still intact to the tran case. The rubber boot was ripped in half. Was wondering if there is a trick to getting this out or is there a bigger problem. I watched Eric’s video on replacing the cv axle and it looked as though it came out fairly easy. I have the new ball joint in and new axle ready to install but this has me really stumped. Any help much appreciated!!!!

Have you removed the other axle?
If you did you can take a screwdriver and stick it through the differential and place it on the end of the stick axle and whack it with a hammer. Works awesome almost everytime (be sure to be on the axle and to not whack the gears.)Other than that you can wrap a chain around the guy and use a slide hammer like action on it.
The trick comes down to that hammering action.
Pry bars are pretty useless for this.Thanks for replying! No the other axle is still on, I’m replacing the axle because everything I have read says replacing the boot is not recommended because axles are so cheap….. When you say rap a chain then hammer it I assume the chain?
You can get one of these at autozone for $20.00 that mounts to a slide hammer its what i use all the time.
