I have an ’03 Ford Ranger with the 2.3L engine and this morning it suddenly will not start. Battery tested good. Fuel pump fuse is good. I tried multiple keys also incase the anti-theft system was the issue. no success. Any Ideas?

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on without cranking? You should be able to hear the pump run for a couple seconds when you first key on. Have you pulled a spark plug yet? Test for spark or look for a wet plug after you’ve been cranking the engine a bit.

I replaced the fuel filter and am now able to get it to start. once it is running it seems to be fine. but if I turn it back off and try to start it again, it is either very difficult to start or will not start at all.

May want to put a fuel pressure tester on it and check the pressure…. If this is within specs turn off the vehicle and see if the pressure holds. If it will not hold fuel pressure and the gas goes back down to the tank and then the system needs to “re-prime” so to speak every time you start the truck… Could be a leaking fuel injector or an issue with the fuel pump regulator…
