      Just got in a 2003 ford contour with a 2.5 24 valve V6
Has any one seen this beast it is so jamed in there that by the looks of it if you need to do anything to it
you need to drop the motor form the bottom just to work on
This is just the kind of crap that is built so NO ONE CAN work on The lady is in her 70s and I know for sure she cant afford the labor to have any thing go wrong on this pos
Even a good technician will be pulling his hair out on this
SO My question is WHAT the HECK are they building today If the water pump leaks on this yon dont fix it cost to much you just drive it to the junk yard
I am coming to the point where I really think the cars builders do NOT want you to have a car for more then 3 years they are build this way for a reason they do not want us to repair todays cars I feel so sorry for any one starting out going to school run up a big tool tab and to have it were you cant work or service todays cars
TODAYS CARS ARE JUNK and the future of a good tech is going away
Wish I had a time machine and go back to the 60s were they built GOOD cars

I thought the same thing when I got my 91 Taurus SHO with a 3.0 24v on it, also the old contour SVT from the 90’s were a pain in the butt to work on.

Probably the worst engine job I have ever done, 99 Mercury Cougar with one of those 2.5 V6’s, manual too so it had to go out the bottom, everything was tight, If only it was an automatic, they are possible to take out the top with the tranny still in place. I agree totally today’s cars are complete junk, designed to fail from the factory, especially American and European cars now days, take my advice, get something Japanese and it will last

Well first, there is no such thing as a 2003 Ford Contour, lets just get that out of the way.

Second, while they look intimidating, these aren’t as bad to work on as you think. Water pump replacement isn’t really that bad on these; they aren’t located on the front of the engine, they are actually located on the back, towards the left side of the vehicle. You see how there is that little belt on the left of the engine that just sits on two pulleys? That is the water pump drive belt and the top pulley is the water pump. Alternator replacement, on the other hand, is a completely different story.

Not to say I am standing up for this car too much, since I would never recommend that anyone buy a 2.5L Duratec V6 Ford, since these engines seem to be pretty failure prone. Likely because of the crappy lubrication system that starves the bottom end of oil if you go around corners to aggressively.

This car is not that hard to work on. But I would agree, the contour wouldnt be my first choice to own.
