I noticed when I got my 2003 Dodge Neon SXT which had 136,000 miles at the time currently 140,000 miles that the transmission shifts weird going into second.
It does not slip, grind, or anything the fluid was clean, the filter was clean but I changed it anyway with the proper ATF +4 by Super Tech.
When it shifts from first into second when cool it sort of like in a way nose dives slightly it does not jerk or shift hard it just gives the nose dive feeling. But when the car is warm the issue disappears and it shifts perfectly. The RPM’s are steady when it happens too. No codes for it at all.
The fluid that came out was not burnt or worn down badly in anyway. The magnet had a normal amount of metal shavings on it for its mileage nothing major or concerning.
It does not seem to be like an internal issue. I am thinking maybe the solenoid pack is going bad or sticking?
The torque struts and transmission mount were replaced so that is not the cause the only mount remaining is the middle motor mount which is going to be changed in the next month or two along with the timing belt and water pump.
Or maybe this is just a normal shift for Neons because to my understanding the 41TE and ATF +4 have to reach a certain temperature for everything to work properly?
It is a 41TE Automatic.
