      in the cool weather the idle is fine abut 750rpm i gess thats ok ,but when the temp warms up like 65 or 70 it idle down to 500 rpms ,right now its winter and idle is fine , no check ingene light light ever comes on ,,,,ETCG was talking about air lickage and it could be the gasket on the air filter housing ,i think thats were the frist air sensor is

        The problem is if it is working perfectly now that it is cold out it will be really hard to diagnose the problem as you will have no way to know if you fixed it or not, you may have to wait till temps get back up again.

            will that’s good new that it may be the PC ,mine idles a bit rough ,but no problems wanting to stall ,,,i checked the PVC the vacuum ,that was a while a go ,yes hold the brake and tap the gas and the idle go’s back up, ,turn on the A/C and the idle gos up,there is a bolt on under the throttle body, i can ajust up to bring the idle up,but it seemed to affect how it was starting and shuting off so i turn the bolt back down ,,the guy said that the MFG. computer them that way 2000-30000- i gess ,i clean the throttle body ,,any why thank for now ,no problem in park,,

              It almost sounds like the IAC is not positioned correctly. I wonder if there is a way to reset it’s position, or reset the computer on that vehicle. On some, all you need to do is disconnect the negative battery cable and touch it to the positive cable for a few seconds. I’m not sure what the procedure is on yours. Please keep us posted on your progress.

                ^ Pull ASD and fuel pump relay and disconnect negative battery. No provision for IAC adjustment that Im aware of.

                Pretty often neon/pt cruiser weirdness can be fixed with a PCM reset

                Im going to assume you are working on a SE/SXT with the standard engine. The most common cause of low idle is one of the hard plastic vacuum tubes collapsing replace it with regular vacuum hose. Take a minute to unplug the IAC and see what happens if your idle falls to where it does when you are having the problem logic would dictate you have an intermittent IAC problem the valves can fail or stick. More likely the TPS and IAC wiring harnesses are in a very odd position on these cars (much more so with the R/T Magnum engine and the 2.4 turbo) the plugs tend to fail Chrysler sells both TPS and IAC rewire kits but they are a little pricy for three lengths of wire and a plug.

                  I had the same problem with my 2002 Neon I sold last year. It also started idling rough under certain electrical loads, etc.I ended up having to replace the PCM and then it idled perfectly, but I had other problems with the PCM which is why I replaced it (fixing the idle was a happy coincidence). I remember reading somewhere about there being a TSB / PCM update and maybe that would have fixed it. I wouldn’t just go and spend $150 on a PCM because of that but just thought I’d mention it.

                    I just remembered something, when my Neon would start idling bad I could turn the steering wheel and it would correct itself. I guess the input from the power steering pressure switch forced the pcm/iac to “wake up” and adjust itself. Something to try to help narrow it down
