I have a 2003 Chrysler Concorde with the 2.7 liter V6. When I picked it up I was told it had problems with over heating, I topped off the ratator up and drove it around LA on and off the high ways for most of the day with no problems of over heating. So I flushed the system to find that I had added 50/50 is a system that was 100% water. So I refilled the system with the required antifreeze ran it until the thremastat opened and added a little more. Then packed up the car to drive it back to Phoenix, AZ where I live, everything was running great until Baumont, CA that’s when we started smelling burnt oil so we pulled off the high way and into a car wash to check it out there was a little oil on the exhaust, so we looked under and that’s when we saw the coolant pouring out from between the motor and the transmission. We shut off the car and it stopped we waited a few hours until it was cooler and started taking the air intake lines off to get a better look at the back of the engine and couldn’t see anything so we jacked the car up and set it on the jack stands I had with me and got under the car to see if we could find a leak. Not seeing anything I turned the car over while my friend was watching to see if more coolant came out. Once the car started the coolant started leaking from where we had pulled the flywheel cover off of, after shuting off the car we got back under there and couldn’t understand why it was leaking that bad from that spot while running but not when it was off. So I was wondering if you knew of any reason it would be leaking and how to fix it. Thank you very much. JD Warner

4 month update on the Concorde. We did the complete upper rebuild replacing all the gaskets and as it turns out had to replace the timing chain tensioner as well. But the car is running strong the leak was fixed. The passenger side head gasket was blown and the driver side was on its last leg, the owner said he should have listened to me from the get go and bought the kit instead of wasting money on stop leak. But while we had the engine pulled apart I found that someone had been in there not that long ago to “repair” the water pump. I used the term “repair” lossely because the water pump was also trashed, but we found liquid gasket poured over every gasket and it was even inside a few coolant tunnels on the heads.
The owner told me his brother in law who owns and runs an auto repair shop in LA did the work. But like I stated the leak is gone and the car is running strong they have already put like 7000 miles on it in these past 4 months.

Thank you everyone who helped with their experience and knowledge. And a big thank you to EricTheCarGuy for making his videos that helped me learn more about automotive repair.

The 2.7 is a strong engine with consistent fluid changes, but can’t take any abuse. I’m surprised this one survived all that.

Also, all stop leak is good for is stopping up a small leak in a hose or something, and clogging up a heater core. Glad to see you got it all sorted out.

Yea the 2.7 is a problem motor. I’m shocked there wasnt more damage when I found out it was driven around LA on mostly water for more than a few months before being parked for almost a year. Also that’s kinda why I hate stop leak, it may fix small leaks but it ruins heater cores. But all in all its a great running car.
