      Hi,
One day, this noise suddenly appears. The day before I drove my truck 100 miles nothing happens.
Now i have this rattling noise that can be hear here : http://youtu.be/4oMaOEgScTE

Sometimes it can upset you for miles and miles or disappears without explanations.
      It only happens when driving.

Someone asked me to put the ‘Hoe in “D”, and, while i keep the brake pedal pressed, gently push the gas pedal down. It start to make an awful noise so I didn’t push it too far.

      Any leads ?
(I’ve looked at the video about exhaust noise. I’ve hit the exhaust line several times but nothing went wrong).

This should be an easy problem to solve… Put the car up on jacks, start it and have someone turn the wheel…

If we were to have a video where we could see speed, wheel turning and sound at one time, it may help… Looking at your feet and the window switches doesn’t help…

Sounds like something in your front wheels..

Actually When I did the video, I was parked and drive back home. I was driving AND handling the phone that was not easy.
Wheels bearings have been replaced both last years and since my brake hose have been replaced recently, the garage would have seen anything.

Anyhow, this is not my primary issue anymore. This morning the DIC displayed “Engine power reduced” and idle weirdly.

              Hi guys !
Though the problem is not solved yet it saw great improvment.
I learn that transfer box on NBS Tahoe had an well known issue : there’s an anti-rattle clip that sometime got broken and let another part hit the inside of the housing, creating a hole where the oil leaks.
When i learned that I checked my oil level in the transfer case and find out it was empty. I had 2 qt of 80w90 oil ion it (can’t find Auto-Trac II from GM here) and the noise gradually vanished.
I’vve put a cardboard under the truck and I can see the oil is leaking. HOw hard/long is it for a newbee to remove the transfer case, upgrade it and replace it?
              Regards.

Fairly easy…but use the proper equipment and be safe. I would put a rebuilt unit back in with all the updates and also remember to put the drive shafts back the way they came out(same spot) Only use the GM fluid with the additive for the new unit.

                  Some update :

I’ve lookked over the web but remanufactured TC form the US are too expensive for me right now.
I’ve found out that a french parts reseller had one which has been rebuilt earlier for €1300.

Sadly, the rubber booth -part #6 on the drawing- was missing and some dirt and water and may be winter salt get in and it was really hard to remove the front drive shaft from the TC. I won’t re-use this driveshaft.

Last week I finally managed to put the TC back in place and the main DS (drive shaft) too. As for the front DS it’s another story : I was unable to put it back far enough so the U-joint could be set in place by an inch. I had to remove it. I had to try the TC so I commuted with my Tahoe last monday and everything was OK so far without the front DS.

I have my technical inspection to be done by the end of the month of september so I msut finish this.
Each time it was a PITA to insert and remove the front DS.
This morning I cleaned with a rag all the groves of my DS and took a brass brush to scrpa the most dirt from this part in the TC that get the yoke inside of it.
I’d like to know if I need to put some amount of grease on the yoke before inserting it into the TC.
A big amount? A samll amount ? A dry insertion?

Oh, the Trtansfer case is already in place and fully functionnal. Thing is I could’nt insert the front drive shaft enough into the Transfer case so I could put the U-joint where it belongs.

I’d like to know If I must put some grease into the splines of the yoke before the insertion or If I have to replace the drive shaft dry.

Yes, greasing the splines will be good,(A coating) it prevents rust and allows the yoke to move more freely ….use a lube type grease
