Here’s my problem: I have a 2003 Cadillac deville and it drives good on occasion. Sometimes when the engine is warm and i shut off the car, about 15-20 mins. Later i come back to restart the car. It will crank and start but the rpm’s are so low that it immeadiately stalls. It wont stay running unless i hold the gas pedal for about 5 mins and then it runs on its own. Again, the problem only happens like once a week. Ive cleaned the tb (with maf sensor cleaner) replaced the cat, the tps, the map sensor, plugs are not even a yr old, both ignition coils are new, cleaned the idle air control valve, cleaned the maf sensor, i have put alot of money and time into this car, and do not know what else could be the problem. Thank you and help will be greatly appreciated.

I know you said that you’ve cleaned the IAC, but did you try tapping on it once the car started to see if the idle would increase?

i tried tapping the iac valve with a hammer and it did not affect the idle at all.

Try cleaning the IAC. also clean inside where the IAC lives.
              see if things change.

I cleaned inside the housing when i cleaned the iac and tb. I did this twice.

if the car has a working ac.Turn it on and see if the
car idles up.if not replace the IAC.also check for vacuum
                  leaks.

Sounds like an IAC issue to me too, may have to replace it to try it and do a proper idle learn after you replace it. I can post steps on how to do so if you decide to change it. Like college man said too, check for vacuum leaks. Those Northstars are famous for the boot to crack between the throttle body and intake manifold. When it’s idling spray some brake clean in that area to see if the engine stalls or changes in idle. Is the SES light on? May be a good idea to have it scanned even if it’s not on to see if there’s a P0171 in it for fuel trim lean, this would also indicate a vacuum leak. A lot of times fuel trim codes will set and not throw the SES light on unless the fuel trim values are WAY out of whack.

Greetings. This is my first posting over here so I hope you find it useful. For what it’s worth, I’d troubleshoot this down to either the ignition system or fuel system before replacing any more parts. Have you checked for consistent fuel pressure from the pump at the intake? It’s a pretty easy test with either a pressure test gauge or manually without one.

With all due respect to Eric, here’s a quick video from Scotty Kilmer on this problem and how to troubleshoot and isolate it that you might find useful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=064Ilsz8Fzg
While sometimes, when you hear hoof beats, ya gotta think Zebras and not horses, imho I’d start this one thinking horses and check the fuel pump and run some simple diagnostics on the ignition. Hope that helps out.

                      Mark
