I will be replacing a fuel pump on a 2003 BMW this weekend. My question is, can I use a regular hose clamp on the hose for the fuel pump? The clamp on there now is a crimped type that resembles a cv joint boot clamp. Also, any other tips on doing this job will be very much appreciated! Thank-you!

Just get hose clamp, they’re super cheap anyway, vacuum around the area cause it’s gonna be dusty, try to be gentle when you hit the lock around the pump cause you don’t wanna cause any spark around the pump because of the fumes, other than that, it’s pretty simple.

see if this helps.you can use a regular hose clamp but I prefer
the fuel line clamp. It does not cut into the line. an auto part
          store should have them.

Opinions will vary. The original clamp might have some extra-special feature that your basic worm-screw clamp can’t quite duplicate. For instance some of the screw clamps have a flat spot under the screw that does not follow the contours of the hose very well. Or maybe the pipe has a narrow flat spot between two raised bumps and the fuel clamp is supposed to sit in between. So an actual fuel hose clamp might be a better choice.

Then again, the last batch of fuel hose clamps I bought at O’Reilly auto were made of like tired old lead, they had absolutely no spring tension to them at all.

Basically you want something that will fit snugly and hold the hose on the pipe, for a real long time, and no shake loose.

I think you should be fine with a hose clamp. If you’re worried, you can always use 2 instead of just one.
