Hello Guys!
I own 2003 Accord V6 EX Coupe.
I’m having a vibration and rattle noise when igniting or shutting down the engine. I can hear it better when shutting down though. So, I turn the key, it shuts down while car is sort of shaking and right there is clank-clank-clank-clank. Same story when starting the engine except rattle is shorter and harder to detect due to starter and engine sounds. It DOESN’T appear when running IDLE.
Also I can only hear it from the inside, sounds like it’s coming from the front maybe even middle but certainly not rear, I think I can hear it better when sticking my head under the steering wheel and listening there. I can’t catch the noise at all when listening under the hood. Visually exhaust does’t seem to be shaking. I’ve replaced engine mounts, so that shouldn’t be them.http://youtu.be/o0EAJ_rhrBo
Here is the link to the video, hopefully you would be able to hear it a little bit. It doesn’t rattle very strong most of the time, but still you can hear it during ignition and shutting off.Current issues that I have which might somehow relate to this problem are:
1. Transmission is almost dead (It’s my second transmission! Very upset with this car) I don’t remember if I had this rattle before the trany got toasted, or maybe I just didn’t pay attention. However, I think it came after.
2. Left front sub-frame middle mounting rubber is destroyed (see the picture)3. The steering rack was clanking/knocking from time to time when turning the wheel, I’ve replaced fluid with Honda OEM but haven’t driven enough to tell whether it fixed the problem.
P.S. I think I’ve just noticed that the rattle comes on when turning the steering wheel in certain position, but it’s very random. Not taking it into consideration yet, gotta test it more.
Please help 🙂
