Ok so I bought this 2003 Accord and I put a scan tool to it today, It came up with a check engine light. When I bought the car there were no check engine lights on and there still isn’t a check engine light that comes on. So when I started the car again I noticed that the check engine light doesn’t even cycle at start up, so I pulled the dash cluster and looked for the bulb. As pulled the cluster from the dash and took it all apart I don’t see any bulbs that would be burned out or that can be replaced. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all and stay dirty. Chris

The light comes on by command of the ECM/PCM. Perhaps someone clipped the wire to keep the light from coming on. I am very suspect of used cars. Worked for a used car dealer years ago, they will do anything that makes them money. Not saying there are not honest guys out there. Just don’t expect high odds of finding them at used car dealerships.

Years ago I went to look for a used car, took my scan tool with me. A sweet old lady tried to take me for a ride, my scan tool found several codes, but there was no check engine light “on”. Her mechanic disabled the light from coming on, but the scan tool saved me. When I drove it sounded under powered, so I was already worried, plus the price was too good to be true.

Take the car back and get your money, if that doesn’t work take them to small claims court.

Out of curiosity, what were the codes?

As mentioned; it sounds like someone might have been messing with the CEL bulb, wire, or gauge.

You might also check the fuses. You’d be surprised at how many issues like this can be resolved just by replacing a blown fuse.

All fuses look good, P code was for O2 sensor bank one,but why doesn’t the check engine light cycle when the car starts and do these clusters have bulbs or LED’s??? Can the Led’s burn out?

does the bulb light when the key is on and engine off?
do the other bulbs light when the same test is done?
you may have a bulb out.

They are bulbs. You can easily check them by checking the resistance. You can find the bulb in question by putting a flash light to the back of the opening where you suspect the bulb is burned out.

As for the O2 code, well there are about 10 of those that mean many different things so we would need the actual code to help with that one. BTW you can type in the code to the search function of this site and not only get information on that code but also any posts associated with that code.
