Hi guys,
Been a while since I’ve piddled with throttles, sensors and such so I’m going to run this by you guys. My Toyota Solara V6 will start but won’t idle when you let off the gas. It doesn’t even try. The rpms just drop off immediately and it dies. Is this the ERG? A vacuum line? Idle Air control valve? …or one of those other sensors around the throttle? It gets fuel just fine but whatever mechanism is responsible for holding an idle isn’t doing the job for some reason.

Haven’t tried. It starts up perfectly and runs smoothly as long as you’re holding the gas. Let off the gas, the tak will go to 0 and it will die immediately. No check engine lights. There was something about pending misfires on the OBD.
Every youtube video I’ve seen so far talks of cleaning the throttle body and idle control sensor, but to me, it isn’t behaving like something is goo’ed up and making it run rough. It just won’t hold the idle. I’ll try letting it warm up and see if that affects anything.Try cleaning the throttle body. next if you can
take it for a ride or turn the ac on and see if
it idles up.Okay, gotta love a mystery. Today it fired right up and holds idle. Idles kinda high but at least it doesn’t die. I messed around with the AC some as College Man mentioned that, but I don’t know if that had anything to do with it. What is the relationship between the two, College Man? Air in the coolant or something? I’m going to clean the throttle body just to see if that helps. Also, today, the brake light is staying on without the brake on…not sure if there is an electronic relationship there or not…I know if you ignore a check engine light long enough other lights will come on. ..but no check engine light. What the ac and idle relationship is when the ac is turned on.
The car should idle up to compensate for the load. That will tell
us if the IAC is working or if drive by wire that the ecm is recognizing
the load and adjusting the electronic throttle body. I did forget to mention
looking for vacuum leaks or listen for a sucking/whistling sounds.
