I should mention that it is the 4L60E transmission

Hey man. You’ve obviously watched the video I would normally link, so we’re good there. I would start with the drain and fill method illustrated in that video. You won’t get all of the old fluid out, because alot is stored in the torque converter. Replace the filter as demonstrated in the video. The ‘other’ method would be to flush the trans, which you can do without a machine. If your fluid isn’t dark black or anything, I would just do the drain/replace the filter/refill the transmission method. If you are overly concerned about it, you could repeat this process every oil change a few times, and you will eventually have mostly new trans fluid. I want to stress that you should use the correct trans fluid recommended by the manufacturer, and not switch to anything synthetic in my opinion. This should do you good, as trans filters on the 4L60E are cheap, and the fluid is pretty cheap as well. With that info, you should be good to go. I do want to note, do not go crazy on the trans pan bolts, as they are likely to break, but your car isn’t that old, so you shouldn’t have problems. I would probably spray them with some penetrating oil and let it set in a couple times before you attempt to remove the pan however, just to cover your bases. Good luck.

The 4L60 holds about 5 quarts just dropping the pan. When I do a rebuild on one and have the thing right down to a bare case with no valve body and torque converter drained it’s more like 10 quarts or maybe more.

                Quoted From Shaun_300:

Thank you Shaun_300…That must be what they were talking about because they said 5 quarts at first and then they said Fill 10. So that clarifies it.

I think the transmission in the video was a 4L80E so the procedure and the amount of fluid should be similar I think. As for parts you have a lot of choices because domestics are pretty easy to find parts for in my experience, you might consider Rockauto.com, they have a lot of good stuff and the service is great.
