Hey guys! I have got a problem with my car and I cant quite figure out what is wrong with it or what is happening. Ok so I will start out with saying the computer code is saying partial misfire detected on cyl #5, that is the only one that is giving me issues. As of current I have ran injector cleaner, I have replaced the spark plug, put a new coil pack on the cyl, replaced the injector, got the computer checked and reprogramed, got a new computer for the fuel pump. I really don’t know what else it could be. When driving the car with the windows down or up you can hear on acceleration normal or hard, A non matalic pining sound, it isn’t a very fast paced sound so I am wondering if its coming from said cyl #5. on start up and the first 5 miles of driving the car it is very sluggish and even sometimes jerks the car from when it misfires. I run high octane fuel 90 or better. also to note the motor is a jasper reman, with very few miles on the motor, but alas no warranty, If anyone has any idea what could be causing this or any way to fix it. please reply

I’ve never heard of a partial misfire code. Can you get the actual code number and post it for us?

There’s a lot that should have been done before you threw any of those parts at it. I think, right now, you’re somewhat reduced to compression testing and cylinder leakdown testing. You’d need an air compressor for the leakdown testing, but compression testing just requires a compression gauge and your spark plug tools. Eric’s got videos to walk you through both testing procedures if you need them.

What kind of ability do you have with wiring diagrams and a voltmeter? The more you can do here, the more options you’ve got for testing.

Ok kinda late here ill have to get most of the codes tomaro but P0316 is usually the start of the codes. ill stop by a local store and get a full print off of what the computer is coding when it gets day light out side.

Have you put a NOID light on the connector for that injector and observed it to make sure it fires consistently. Also, inspect the primary wire to that COP and find a way to check for a consistent, steady signal there as well.

It also might be worthwhile to do a compression or leakdown test on that cylinder.

            Hope this helps.

ok so compression test is done, and it doesn’t look good for any cyl sadly never even ran the damn thing hard. and compression starting at cyl1,95 2,87 3,91 4,90 5,40!!! 6,94 7, 90 8, 89. I don’t know if I just got a bad egg from jasper but that’s some sad PSI for a block with just 7k on it now. really don’t even know what to do at this point. do I rebuild a rebuild ?

Unless you’ve timed-out on the warranty, you should still be covered under JASPER’s warranty as far as mileage goes.

Did you perform the compression test with the throttle opened? What readings from the wet test?

compression test readings are on a post above, cold engine, WOT on all test, with coil packs and injectors unplugged.

after sending the car to the only local mechanic available, he had the car setting there for 3 weeks pulled the valve cover off on the left bank of cylinders said that there was no cracked or damaged valve spring “from what he could tell” and told me there was a sound coming from the bottom end of the car, told me to find a new motor. Driving the car I can not hear said Knock that he is talking about. anyone have any idea’s. because he was my last option more or less.

ended up sending it to a jasper engine shop, what I should have done in the first place honestly. Anyways, to anyone that runs into this same problem ended up being carbon buildup in and around the valve seats cyl #5 was the worst but its actually looking like a rather cheap fix! just sent the heads off to have them checked out by a mach. shop to make sure but looking good so far!

Sorry you went through all that. I hate to post this now, but..

You can use a squirt bottle on a fuel injected engine BTW.

That said, having a fresh engine is not a bad thing. Nothing like a new engine to wake a pony up.

For future reference you can use this to diagnose problems of this type. I would have started with a power balance test BTW. There’s a video covering that in this article.

Good luck and let us know how the new engine works out.
