My brother recently just got done installing a new head in my mom’s 2002 automatic Honda CRV. She says that it keeps revving itself up between 200 and 300 rpms and dropping. It does this until she puts it in drive and from there it runs just fine. Since this is only happening when in park, should I start by checking for vacuum leaks and then go from there? Does that sound about right? Any advice would really be appreciated.

Since the head was just done. that means the cooling system was opened.
Top off your coolant and bleed the cooling system.Check for vacuum leaks AND bleed the cooling system as both are important to idle operation.
Thanks for the tips guys. I’m no mechanic so thankfully my mom is gonna take her CRV to a shop early next month to finally take care of the rest of her issues. I’m glad as the check engine light is also throwing a few codes and she needs new brakes. Thanks again!
