My sister-in-law was told by her Honda dealer that she needs to replace her lower ball joint boots as they are leaking grease. There is no play in the ball joint itself which is good because evidently Honda doesn’t sell just the ball joint requiring you to purchase the entire knuckle that holds the ball joint for $$$. I did verify this and they are in fact leaking grease. They quoted her $345 to change the boots. I can buy the boots for $5 from Honda online if I do the job myself. How do I change these boots? Given the $345 quote I’m assuming that there is a lot of work involved.
Can I simply disconnect the ball joint from the lower arm and replace the boot with the knuckle still in the vehicle and is alignment required after this?
Thanks.
