I have a 2002 Honda Accord 2.3L engine. I was driving and the engine sound like it was winding up because it reved up high rpms for a second or two then went down to normal rpms. Then as I was driving 20 minutes later the engine reved up but no car movement. So I managed to turn off the main road safely. After the car stopped rolling I turned off the car and removed the key. I restarted the car and it has movement again. 5 minutes later the samething happened again and I turned off the car and restarted it. This time no gears in the automatic transmission will engage. Do you know what causes this? And around how much does it cost to fix?

I edited the previous message to add a more thorough vehicle description.

First thing’s first, check your Automatic Transmission Fluid level, you might be leaking it. Check it with a warm car on a level surface.
Speaking of which, when was the last time it was changed? Remember to use exclusively Honda ATF

Worst case scenario the syncro’s in the transmission are worn, that repair will be near what the car is worth but let’s not jump the gun.

If the auto transmission is bad , do you have the skills , tools and facility to do a swap ? If so , maybe a salvage yard transmission or a used one from the internet ?

Otherwise , compare the value of the car against paying a transmission shop to rebuild it & change it in & out .

I know how that is , we have a Chevy with a dead transmission & the repair would cost more than the car is worth .

Hopefully a transmission service will get you back on the road . And if you have any leaks , fix them .

            God bless
