Hi Nick,
I have used http://www.car-part.com as a source to look for used parts. Did your mechanic provide a quote to repair your current manual transmission? You can always use that as a starting point. A 30 day (or more) warranty on a used transmission is always a plus to have, when buying used. Good luck and keep us posted.
April 15, 2012 at 11:00 am #438487I was going to mention car-part.com also.
I don’t know how it is with fords, but on my Jeep you have to be careful because the TCM is locked to the S/N of the transmission. So make sure you do any research to make sure that won’t be the case with your Ford. If you have a mismatch, the TCM will need to be flashed at a dealer or it won’t get out of limp mode. Again, may not be a problem with a manual transmission since they don’t have a whole lot of smarts.
The Jeep’s transmission is used by Nissan (they made it via their Jatco division) and also by Mitsubishi.

I think you just have a clutch problem.April 16, 2012 at 11:00 am #438488Alrighty so heres the update. Last night while driving the car around (yes it still drove till last night) the clutch got real dang spungy and went to the floor. I pumped it a few times got pressure back and then it went out again. So I had it towed to my mechanic cause I deemed it unsafe to drive…. So now it sounds like im looking at way more than just a transmission.
April 16, 2012 at 11:00 am #438489Also has anyone ever heard of sticking a honda transmission in a ford? I know it sounds crazy but I know honda does make a great product and if there is some sort of kit to make it work that would be awesome!
April 16, 2012 at 11:00 am #438490Car-part.com as many have stated however it sounds like you have a clutch hydraulic problem and not necessarily a trans problem, if the clutch doesn’t fully disengage you will have a problem shifting. That said why not have the trans you have repaired instead of replacing it, replacing syncros is not that big of a deal. Lastly don’t try to put a Honda trans in there unless you are a machinist with a lot of time and money on your hands. I would recommend you replace the clutch along with repairing whatever clutch hydraulic problem you have and then seeing if the trans shifts properly.
April 16, 2012 at 11:00 am #438491Well see I cant find any parts for the G5M. The synchros are no longer carried by ford/mazda. However when my mechanic looked at my car he told me that what happened last night was due to a Clutch Master Cylinder/Slave clyinder failer. And noted on the honda deal. Im just worried that if I have to throw another G5M in that car that itll bite me again in another 130k.
June 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #438493Alright so heres the latest update on my ZX2 issues. You all were right the Clutch master and slave both went out at the same time that night. Also about a week ago the transmission finally quit. The third gear synchro exploded and at the time I didnt know it and I went to down shift and sent the scraps of the sychro flying through the trans thus causing a complete trans lock up in second gear from 35 mph. My engine is fine but the the trans is fried. Turns out im having to a put a used one in. And heres the sucky part is that its taking almost 2 weeks to do this.
June 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #438494That does suck, thanks for keeping us up to date though, keep us posted on the trans swap.
