OK, My passenger front “door closed” sensor is not sensing the door closed.
and the door locks start locking/unlocking, cabin light goes on….haunted car scenario.

I’ve sprayed the door locks with penetrating oil, and slammed them closed in the past,
but the recurrence is getting shorter and shorter time span.

Until I’m ready to tackle fixing this sensor, is there a way to disable (or bypass the sensor)?

This seems to happen mostly when I have a passenger – is there something about someone
sitting in the passenger seat that could cause this – or is it simply to get into the car the door
has to be opened and closed – thus irritating the sensor?

I don’t think it has anything to do with the passenger sitting In the seat as it does the passenger opening/closing the door. The only way to disable the switch would be to unplug it and possibly jump the wires together depending on how the circuit works. If your going to do all that you might as well replace the switch.

It’s not that replacing the switch isn’t the final goal – which will require pulling the door apart – and I believe removing the window assembly as well to get to the switch. I was hoping to be able to get at it from where the wires come in from the door (either cut the wire, or short it) for now until I have the time to muck with the whole door.

I wondered about the seat because there is wire harness under the seat and wondered if the sensor wire was inthere, and somehow getting shorted when pressure (person sitting) was put on the seat.

Fords have electronics in the door related to the lock, but there should be a push type spring loaded button that gets pushed shut when the door closes, thus breaking the circuit causing the light to go out etc. Those are usually in the door jam, not the door. It’s not uncommon for those to get rusty contacts in the back. In this case, the door stays together and the panel around the footwell or the seatbelt area gets peeled off for access.

The Taurus’s (at least 2002 ish) have the door ajar sensor inside the door latch assembly where it locks onto the bar in the door frame.
The part is cheap, getting to it is the rough part.
