So about 7 or 8 months ago my 2002 Ford Focus ZTS’s cv joint broke and punctured my oil filter. I just bought the new cv joint and am wondering if there are any cautions I should know about when installing this part? This is my first cv joint repair and I would rather not fuck up on it.

When the oil filter was punctured , did the engine loose enough oil to ruin the engine .

If the engine is still good , drain the oil & remove the old / bad filter . Install another new / good filter and replenish the oil .

Now , were it me , I would remove the old half shaft and install a new or rebuilt half shaft .

Thank you for the info. Everything is going smooth except for the output shaft seal on the transaxle. I can’t get a good seal on it for the life of me.

Are you saying you have replaced the seal & the seal is still leaking ?

No sir. I don’t have a special tool to push the seal in and it is kinda being stubborn. I tried using a socket but it just wont go in evenly.

                Last seal I replaced was a pinion ( differential ) seal on a 1991 Chevy Caprice .

Now , this is a fair size seal & I used a fair size socket and a big hammer . ( the outside diameter of the socket should be pretty much close to the OD of the seal. )

You are using a big enough hammer ? Will not hurt to lube the outside of the seal . Of course , lube the inside of the seal with what ever oil the transmission uses , before you attempt to install the axle into the seal / transmission .

Go to youtube and search for a video for your car , installing an axle seal .

                God bless
