Hello,
My name is Eddie. This is my first post. And I was hoping someone could help me out. I would truly appreciate it.
I have a 02 Ford Focus zx5 and I can now not get it to start. And when it was running it was running really bad with no power. I have replaced alot of parts and put a lot of money into this car in the last 2 years so I pretty much have to make it last.
I even had the car at a reputable shop and did exactly what they said they would do to the car if they repaired it. Now it will not start.
I could go on for days about all that has been replaced.
The car has timing, good compression, Fuel and spark. I am honestly at a lost. And do not know what to do.
If someone could try to help me or suggest anything I would be more then appreciative!
Thank you so much in advance for your time and help. And allowing me to post on here.
Thank you very much!

Ed
1. Is car automatic or stick shift?
2. Does car have regular plugs or coil over plugs?
3. Explain what happened right before it quit running last?
Car is automatic

Regular plugs

The car would start and idle rough. And there was no power. If I played with the gas pedal the rpms would go up eventually but very slow. One time it started and seemed to be running very well but pinging really bad under load. I went to the gas station and put gas in it. And the car seemed to be running great! But then light a light switch the car went back instantly to barely idling with no power when I pushed the gas.it was then taken to a shop. They advised me that it was the cat and an 02 sensor even though I had no codes. I replaced the items with Ford parts and it ran exactly the same. I then went out the next day after I went and bought a scanner but the car would not start back up since.

Thank you so much for your help and time.

The engine is a dual overhead cam in-line 4-cylinder engine that uses a coil pack, plug wires and regular style spark plugs from what I recall.
The original poster will have to specify if it is automatic or standard transmission.

I sold my Ford after I had to do several repairs to it at 60,000 miles, including replacing the timing belt, and water pump.

Double check to see if the spark plug wires did not get connected to the wrong plugs / cylinders .

Next , after it gets completely dark , at night , raise the hood & look for spark jumping where it should not . While a friend tries starting the car .

Did you say how many miles on the car ?

I too was thinking about cam timing ?

Does it have a distributor or a coil pack .

Watched a video recently where the mechanic found an electronic part was bad , in the distributor . Causing weak / erratic spark . If you have a distributor , check the rotor & distributor cap .

All the grounds OK ?

God bless

PS Sorry , did not catch that . You said it has a coil pack .

Wondering about cam or crankshaft position sensor ? But would think that would throw a code ?

Thank you so much for your time and help.

Wires are connected to right spots. Triple checked. Wires and coil pack are numbered 1-4. Very hard to mess up.

Car has 160

coil pack on car.

Grounds are good.

I greatly appreciate your time and help!!!!!

Thank you and God Bless also

1. Did you test the coil pack? Just because it has fire does not mean its good.

I’ve replaced it twice. But if you can tell me how to test it I’d be more then happy to.

Thank you

Both coils were brand new.
All the parts I’ve replaced so far have been new.

Thank you

Thanks for your time and help. Timing Belt is only a few months old. But the timing marks line up perfectly with cam bar and crank pin. That has been double checked.
Did it ever run correctly after the timing belt was replaced ? I think it is possible to have the timing marks correct , but be one full revolution off ? Best I remember , the crank rotates 2 revolutions for every revolution of the cam or cams ?

But if this is the problem , it would not have run after the belt was replaced .

I have read of the belt being 1 tooth off / wrong and either ran terrible or not at all .

Yes it ran for about 2 months after the timing belt was replaced.
But it acted like it had a vacuum leak. If I put the car in nuetral while driving the rpms would go up instead of settling down. But sitting still it idled fine. The car just keep running worse and worse.
No CEL or stored codes!

No, it’s almost impossible to. The coil and wires are numbered.
Plus the wires are all different lengths.

Thank you so much for your time and help.
