Just purchased with 158K on it. $200. Engine codes cylinder #1 and #4 misfire. Before digging in as to the root cause, I’d thought I’d ask here. Have read that the valve cover gasket can leak and short the spark plug wires from oil in the wells, coil pack could be bad, fuel injectors should be resistance checked and cleaned or the EGR is bad. I will also do a compression check.
Engine intermittently misfires at idle and at higher rpm.
It doesn’t seem to be a valve or ring problem.
Previous owner stated that injectors #2 and #3 were showing 70 psi and #1 and #4 were showing 30 psi.
Not quite sure how this could be checked.
Just wondering if there are more common problems with this engine.

        1. After, at least, 10 years, the cover gasket become hard and crack. Most of the time, oil can stop the spark plug to work. But at this stage, you will notify your engine burning oil and you regularly add oil when the computer notice a misfire. You will surely smell burning oil in the highway if that was the case.
        2. Coil pack will not be bad is oil was in contact. If you get oil between the spark plug and the coil contact point, a misfire can happens to due to the non conductivity of the engine oil. No electrical short possible to damage the coil.
        3. You can go to the garage to perform a injector cleaner

        4. If the injection cleaner did not help, you need to test the fuel pressure.
