Hi everybody, hope all is well with you.

I’m having a problem with my 2002 Dodge Durango and I just can’t seem to figure out. This started 3 days ago,and doesn’t happen all the time, it’s intermittent.
When I sit in idle at a stop and then pull away the truck will hit it’s 1st and 2nd shift but sometimes when it goes to 3rd the engine revs and it won’t hit 3rd. Easing off the gas seems to help it jump into 3rd gear.
Yesterday when it happened I had the A/C on and when it did happen the A/C started blowing hot air until the truck went into 3rd gear, then it blew cold .

I have replaced the transmission speed sensor, the O2 sensor(bank2 sensor1), Throttle Position sensor, and a month ago replaced the A/C compressor, drier and pressure release valve.
Could my problem be the governor pressure solenoid, or the governor pressure sensor in the transmission?

Any and all advice on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated

      Thanks
      Al

Sounds to me that it has an internal trans problem such as a bad clutch piston seal or worn clutches.

On my 2004 neon when the camshaft position sensor went kaput it would do something similar; it would be hard to start but eventually with enough cranking it would get going, and shifting into anything beyond 3rd it would surge and shutter unless I left off the gas and let it ease into gear a bit.

Is it an automatic or manual transmission?
How’s the fluid level, color and smell?
Do you have any check engine lights?

Hi, thanks for the reply and input.

It’s an automatic 4.7L sport model. I checked the tranny fluid level it’s where it should be has good color and doesn’t smell burnt. I also topped off the engine coolant, it was down about a pint.

No that’s the weird thing I don’t have a check engine light nor are any trouble codes showing. Yesterday everything worked fine, no problem at all

Thanks for the reply and info.

I was beginning to wonder if it was something internal in the transmission. Yesterday it didn’t do it. hit all the shifts as smooth as could be no high revving just acted normal. This has me baffled as it shows no trouble codes or a check engine light
