I’d say there was an issue with either one of the connections at the cluster or the voltage regulator in the cluster itself. To be honest I don’t know. Your best bet is to track down a wiring diagram to see how the cluster is wired so that you know where to start looking. That may do you no good if the problem is internal to the cluster, if that’s the case you may have to replace it.

You may find a wiring diagram here.

When you say you took it out, do you mean you had access to touch the needles or stepper motors at any point, or was it still sealed in it’s plastic casing?

They calibrate on their own, but they are dependent upon where they are set or moved to if severely jarred or moved out of place. With such a uniform change, I’d suspect you just jarred them pretty hard and screwed up their reading on the cluster. I would of course verify this with a scan tool. If it’s just a constant difference of 600RPMs and 15kph for example, then chances are the cluster is fine, you just need to fix the positioning of the needles.

They’re just motors(called specifically “stepper motors”) with a thin post sticking above the display, which the plastic gauge needle affixes to. These can be either pulled off to be reseated or moved back against the resistance when on with care. Should you wish to pull them to re-seat, best to use long angled tweezers to create a uniform fulcrum to lift the plastic needle off the stepper motor’s thin column from under it to avoid damaging the plastic and/or bending the thin column/needle.

As an example, this was from me replacing all of my puke green SMD LEDs some years ago to blue:

While on if you remove the front case you should be able to gently move them back to show correctly.
