      Hi
My brother’s 2001 honda acccord with an f23a1 engine would start and idle properly when cold. When the engine gets to running temperature, it begins to idle poorly and sometimes stalls at stop lights. Fuel pressure tests fine, i have replaced spark plugs and the ignition cables resistance are as specified in the fsm.

Recently, the car refused to start, I changed the entire distributor to a used one and the car still wouldn’t start. I have tested each ignition cable with a spark plug while cranking the engine and it produces spark, the spark seems weak to me though. As a last resort, I decided to test for continuity between the ignition coil through the distributor cap to the terminals where the spark plug cables are connected and there isn’t any continuity. This suggests to me that the DI rotor isn’t making contact with the metal contacts inside the distributor cap.

While I would appreciate any help, I really want to know, shouldn’t there be continuity in the test i described above ? Thanks

see if this link helps. to ohm out a coil wire is good but to try and read it through everything
won’t work. This link should help.

I have run through all those steps. I even did a compression test and the values are 180, 185, 180 and 190 respectively besides, the car would start before now and idle poorly when warm, I believe the refusal to start now is related to the initial poor idle issue

@ MacDonnell, do you mean to say that there may be a vacuum leak due to a crack in the air intake tract ?

Long story short, I had a 95 mx3 v6 that when first started its idled up fine until running temp was normal…then its like the idle would rev up and down constantly until you hit the gas to go then it drove normal…
all i did was electrical tape the minor crack and that was fixed

                Another possability for example
I had a 95 trans am v6 that also ran fine until normal running temp and it would idle funny not take gas and stall…then not re start… the coul would get hot and break down…i put a new coil in and ta daaa…fixed
