I was checking Chiltons and they mentioned about removing cam sprockets. I have not done a belt on this model yet and I am wondering if it is necessary. Can anyone give me advice on any tricks about this job? Thanks.

This is totally dependent on the engine size as the water pumps and timing belts or timing chains are all different.

As for the camshaft sprockets, those wil only be removed if you have a timing chain that needs replacement.

            5.4? That’s pretty big.

Need to know the engine size, its going to be a 2.7/3.2/3.5…and from my knowledge each model is a chain driven engine, no need in changing the chains, unless one (or both) have stretched or broken. If it is the 02 3.5 H.O, go with OEM water pump…I fought with 2 NAPAs and one Autozone pump before spending the extra $30 bucks for a chrysler pump when I replaced mine 7 years ago…I miss that 3.5 liter, it was alot of fun to drive! If it’s the 2.7 liter…don’t touch it…those things are time bombs 🙁

And if it is a 5.4…take pictures…I wanna see that monster stuffed into that little engine bay C8-)

I believe the 2.7 has a timing chain and the 3.2 and 3.5 have timing belts.

Yes I know for a fact that only the 2.7 has a timing chain and the others have belts, strange they would put a belt on the bigger engines instead of a chain.
