      Hi Guys,
I am very happy can join this forum! I just start to lean how to fix my car by myself. Eric’s videos are awesome, and I believe I can lean more skills from here!

There are some new problems about my 2001 4×4 Sequoia, I couldn’t figure out, I hope you can give some advise. First, the maniflow is leaking, not really loud, idle is no noise, when accelerating I can hear it. Without replace them, does any cheap way to stop the leak? If I just ignore the leaking, does any future damage will happen?

Second, when i drive the car, I can hear some “huhu” noise. I left whole car up and let all wheels free run on 4×4 mode, there are some Grey grease spit out from both side front CV joint. I attaches two images. And I find some oil stain on the front diff case. Do you think the “huhu” noise is caused by the grease leaking, bad CV joint? Should I refill some diff grease and diff seal gasket? I also check all wheels, I find the rear passenger side wheel has scratching sound when I spin the wheel. Do you think it is bad bearing? Because when I drive over 55mph I can hear some noise from back.
      Sorry for a lot questions.
      Thanks

Is this an exhaust manifold leaking or an intake manifold leaking? Usually when an intake manifold leaks it sucks extra air and causes some codes and other issues… Ensure this is truly leaking or perhaps there may be another thing making the sound (or another thing leaking)… use the throttle body to manually increase the rpms and you can spray things with water and listen to the engine bog to try to find the leak.. If it is an exhaust manifold check for cracks… may need a new gasket… Let us known which manifold is leaking…

The other problem you have can be several problems… Some pics may help.. The sound is probably related… Does the sound get louder with increased speed?

As far as the rear, it can be bad bearings or leaking seals… pics may help…

Thanks Karl! The maniflow noise is hard to hear when I open the hood and let engine run. But when I seat in side of the car and press gas paddle, it is easy to notice the “tututu” noise.

Here are some images. I hope they are not too much cost. I don’t have image of the passenger rear side wheel scratching noise. I am not sure what cause the noise. Maybe brake?

It sounds like you may be describing an exhaust leak. Here’s how to determine the location of those.

If you have an exhaust leak, there really isn’t a ‘cheap’ way around it. You either have to replace a failed gasket or component and then recheck for leaks. Exhaust leaks can cause poor MPG as well as get into the passenger compartment. In some states exhaust leaks can fail a safety inspection.

As for the noise, without hearing it, we really can’t offer much help. I have however written all about finding and fixing noises in this article.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Eric! I will try to use a rag to figure out the noise.
Do you have any idea about the joint grease leak?

I wouldn’t worry about it for now. When the time comes, you can just replace the axle. If you want to replace the boots before that time, this might help.

You have a lot of good videos! Like them!
I went to a muffler shop, they inspected the exhaust pipe and no leak on pipes. They said the sound came from the joint of engine and exhaust pipe??? The exhaust leaking sounds like” dududu” and only happened when I step the gas paddle. Idle is no leaking sound.

I attached some images why not showing?

Exhaust manifold gasket leaking is quite common. Leak in there may make engine running lean and that makes it wear more. Leak will also reduce power and worsen your mpg.

CV-boot may be new and grease just leftover. Or it may be that clamp isn’t tight enough in that case it maybe ok just to tighten (renew) it. Or boot maybe wrong or installed incorrectly. Or clamp maybe too tight and boot is broken under it. But I would first clean it and see that does it actually leak. If it does I would only replace boot or tighten or replace clamp since there is no contaminants inside yet.

great, my pics are showing! I shot the two inner joint grease leak and some oil stain on the front diff. I am not sure the stain is diff fluid, looks like thin oil.
Today I just noticed the new noise! When I drive over 30mph, and slightly turn right, I can feel the floor is vibrating. Also can hear dumb sound. I think it about the wheel or axle problem? Maybe the joint grease leak?

Clean all of those with brake cleaner or degreaser or similar. Fluid on front diff may be from it or engine oil. Diff fluid normally will have very distinctive smell.

Thank you Valde! I will clean the brake and let you know the result. Just want to make sure, is really necessary to remove the wheel to spray the cleaner?

You don’t have to do perfect job at cleaning it. So if you can you don’t have to remove anything just don’t blow grease or oil into brakes.

To me there doesn’t seem to be anything critical in the pics you posted. Small leaks yes, but nothing I would be too concerned about.

As for the noise, make sure you’re not in 4WD. You should not run in 4WD when on dry pavement. If you do, it can make noise and wear your tires out prematurely.

                              Keep us posted.
