I have a car running perfectly but it won’t drop the p0130 air fuel sensor bank 1 sensor 1 range performance code.

I’m thinking the front O2 sensor but it has 5 wires and I think a fuse in the connector. I just replaced it, I have the old one. How can I check to see if the heater is working and just for good measure I can check the function of the old one but I don’t know how. This car had a valve job and new timing belt, head & intake gaskets, plug wires, spark plugs, ignition module, fuel filter, and idle air solenoid put on recently and it had a misfire due to the valve clearance on #2. Before adjusting the valves I replaced the front O2 sensor and checked the timing belt, fuel pressure and timing. Switched injectors and wires. What fixed it was the valve adjustment. # 2 has a leakdown of 50% and 165 compression. All others are 180 compression and less than 5% leakdown. The car runs incredibly good (130K) smooth idle. Lotsa power. HELP me get rid of the 0130 code!! There was a p0171 but it went away when I cleaned the air intake temp sensor (again).

Thanks lots of good info but I’ve been through most of that stuff – I don’t have my own reader so when I use the O Reilly’s it gives me p0130 and since I just put in a new front O2 sensor I would like to try and test it. Or the old one. But it’s a 5 wire thing with a connector that I think has a fuse in it. Anyone know how I can test the heater circuit etc.?? I can’t find it online.

I’m going to try the “Cataclean” product as their obd reader flashes the cat and eva icons when I read the code. Next time I’m going to write down all the data.

The car runs absolutely perfect, I just hate having that light on and some potential issue

Look for two wires the same color for the heater circuit.
key on engine off test for 12v.

There are 5 wires, all different colors.

                    Thanks much for your help.

For starters, I did this video.

Also, you need to give us some time to respond. There are a lot of people looking for help. Please be patient.

If you had a scan tool that you could use to read live data, it would tell you what the computer sees from that sensor. Remember it could also be an issue with wiring or a connector somewhere. You just did a significant amount of work. It would also be a good idea to go back over that work to make sure everything is hooked up correctly. It’s not that difficult to miss a connector or something when doing that much work.

                      Keep us posted.

Thanks so much Eric – I am totally new at this forum stuff I just didn’t know If I was doing it correctly. This is a great service and I hope to be able to figure out my issue(s).

I will go over it all and make sure all is reinstalled/plugged in etc. correctly.

I will now be patient. I also will buy a scan tool.

                        Thanks again.

I checked the 5 wire front O2 100% continuity for heater, with car up to temp I get 8 volts to what I thought was the O2 wire. Also the delivery voltage to the heater is only 8 volts. I’m figuring I have the wrong wire to check the O2 output.

What’s a good scanner tool to buy? I wouldn’t mind spending a few hundred on one.

                            thanks

I’m thinking the heater should get 12v not 8v. There may be an issue in the wiring OR your system voltage might be low. Might not be a bad idea to check your battery voltage and the voltage when the car is running. The low voltage may be the key to what the problem is. If the system voltage is good, check the wire harness for damage or other signs of a problem.

                              As for a scan tool.

                                Hey Eric
My scan tool freeze frame when the 0130 pops always says the voltage is low, as low as 10. So with some resistance somewhere the O2 is getting 8.

I have the $185 new alternator in the back seat. When I check the (new) battery, engine off, I get 11. Engine on, scan live data is 13.9. Can a alternator fail like that? I would think not. Especially in this case it’s so consistent.

I talked to the Bosch tech about the 5 wire sensor and he said it can’t really be bench tested like a 1 or 3 wire. Can test the heater circuit is all. So since I tried checking it I may have ruined it.

He explained the wiring – way over my head. Something like pump circuits and constant voltage….

Thanks so much for your help, pretty amazing you have time for all this.
