This sounds like an electrical issue. In order to repair it, you’ll need to take some measurements and check a few things out first. I’d recommend looking for a service manual with a wiring diagram of the fuel sending unit. From there you can find out if the problem is in the tank at the sending unit, the wiring, or the gauge itself. More info on solving electrical issues here.

I found a dealer that has them for a good price so I’ll change them both first and see if there’s a change
