Anyone know where the Back-Up light switch location is on a Saturn L Series w/automatic trans ? My Chilton’s manual shows it’s located on the side of the trans axle. Wrong, only on a manual not an auto. The only place I can see that would be close, is a black box on top of the trans case where the shift linkage attaches to with two plugs with wires going into it on the drivers side. I see nothing other than that. I can post a picture if needed. My reverse lights aren’t working and they did back in Feb when I bought it. Checked power to the sockets and nothing. Fuse is good. Thanks for your suggestions.

Haynes and Chilton’s manuals and other shop manuals are known to be wrong. I have plenty of proof. One issue was in 2004 when I needed to know where the fuel pump relay on my ’93 Ford Tempo was. Two shop manuals and the Dealership were dead wrong. I had to trace the wire to the pump. Found it on the strut tower on the drivers side in a relay box. Not even close to where it was listed by three different references. And to top it off I was given the wrong pump listed too. It was the $59 model not the $129 as shown at the parts store. Must have used an aftermarket or something or however that happens. Holy, Moly. There’s your proof. lol. I’ll keep checking for replies. I’d hate to have someone not know I’m backing up and walking behind me but It’s the drivers responsibility to watch for oncoming pedestrians or vehicles. Just sayin’ !!

From what I see on Yahoo that’s the neutral safety switch. No idea where the reverse light switch is on these. Nothing showing about that in the diagram. If I have to, I’ll have to deal with not having it working. Either way, it won’t kill me not having them. Thanks for listening.

See if this info is true? says your reverse light is in your selector neutral safety switch.

That’s what I figured because my manual doesn’t show anything on it for an automatic. That’s why I assumed it was there myself. Thanks for the info.

I replaced the neutral safety switch and now only one back-up light is functional. I checked the passenger side assy and there’s no power to the socket. It blows fuses with the socket back in it. I suspect an issue with the assy ground or socket. Either way I thought I’d update you on it. This will be interesting.

thanks for the update. if it blows with the socket in place socket would be suspect.
                    keep us posted. 🙂
