Hi everyone i am new on this forum and i love Eric the car guy show on youtube!

Before opening this topic i read through the vibrations part of this site and didn’t find anything like what is happening on my car… I will try to describe:

When going in the speed range between 45 mph – 70 mph, the steering wheel shakes, sometimes it shakes hard, sometimes just a little but the shake is always there…It goes away as soon as you go faster or slower than those speeds…

Now if you press the brake pedal LIGHTLY in that speed range the steering wheel starts to shake harder, if you press the brakes just a little harder all vibrations dissapear…There is no brake pedal pulsation!

Also if you brake at lower or faster speeds there is no shaking.

I need to say that front discs and pads are about a month old and before replacing them i also had the same vibration but in the smaller speed range lets say from 55 – 60 Mph…It got worse after a fast driving on the higway about a week ago.

I put the rear tires in front, and front to back but the vibration is unchanged… I don’t know where to look and what could cause this… Could it be the driveshaft?

      Thanks for any help guys.

I would start with balancing the wheels, all of them.
Are there any disturbing noises coming from the suspension ?

I will take the wheels for balancing tommorow…And there are no noises from the suspension, none at any speed.

When you’ll have the car in the air (for balancing) check the wheels for any play. Eric had a video on checking the wheels :
            from 6:00

if you’re getting shuddering/shaking that disappears when you step on the brakes it would also be a good idea to check your wheel bearings for any play. I believe it’s explained in the video above, but you basically just grab the top and the bottom of the tire while it’s jacked up and wiggle it. There should be NO play.

My first suspect is tires. Even though you rotated them, they may still be bad or out of balance. Some vehicles are more picky than others when it comes to tires. Saabs may fall into that category. Cheap tires probably won’t hold up well.

That said, the next suspect is the driveline. Given that you also have a slight brake pulsation under the conditions you described, I would also check the suspension components. Suspension components do not cause vibrations mind you as I stated in the article you mentioned, but they can make them worse. It’s worth eliminating anyway.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Just to tell you…This is now finally fixed!

The problem was that front lower control arms were busted…Replaced them+droplinks and now the car is smooth no shaking at speed or when braking.

                  Thanks everyone for help.

In what fashion where they busted? Bushings, rust, cracked.

                    Glad you have it repaired!!!!

Main cause for shaking when at speed or light braking were the front bushings circled on this photo(yes these on photo are powerflex bushes, just couldn’t find better photo atm). They were cracked and tired, there was lots of movement front/back. And balljoints were also tired and loose.

When we tried the method of moving the tire at 3 and 9 or 12 and 6 o clock we coudnt find any loose parts.

But when i took my car to MOT they found out that bushings are bad on those moving plates they have for checking suspension.

Thanks for the update. Knowing each car/trucks quirks and problematic areas can help us help others in future.
