Good morning folks.
Yesterday my mom limped the car home after the power steering failed on her while driving. She mentioned it sounded like a branch got caught up under the chassis and the steering wheel wouldn’t turn beyond 1/4 turn before binding hard. When she got it home, I started it to confirm the issue. It sounds like the replacement pump failed. There is a constant grinding sound from it, and the steering wheel will not turn beyond 1/4 turn before binding and ‘locking’ in either direction. With the engine off, I’m able to turn the wheel with some difficulty.
We replaced the pump with a reman Cardone unit, and it seemed to be fine for my father’s trip to Utah and back from California, without any issues until yesterday.
Ideas and suggestions will be more than welcome.
Thank you!
