I am running into an interesting situation explained in detail here

essentially the timing belt looks loose at TDC. I followed the factory manual instructions to tension it, moving the crank and watching the camshaft move 3 teeth counterclockwise, then tightened down the tensioner.
one guy in this thread with alot of experience says this condition is OK. I saw the same thing with the original timing belt (166k on it) and now i’m seeing it with the replacement Gates timing belt. Has anyone else seen this? Should I try tensioning it again?

thanks, i think i found my problem, will know again tonight. was not doing the correct sequence with the tensioner.
found timing had jumped, also had to manually move each cam a little bit before it would line up correctly.
still having some slack, i made a video here which you can see it loosen at 18 seconds when it is at TDC.
I suppose i can try retensioning it again, or is this normal?
the belt does seem tighter now, but there is still obvious slackening of the belt.
after confirmation from a few people that the belt slackening like that at TDC is normal i slapped her back together and she is running great. thanks for your help!
Thanks for keeping us posted. Those DOHC engines can be tricky to set tension on. Glad you got it sorted. BTW I do have a VManual on the replacement of that timing belt available on this site which shows how to tension the belt.
