I’d LOVE to get a video on how to disassemble the IACV. I want to do this so bad to avoid spending $200 if possible. I believe mine is also very much near death. I’m surprised the car hasn’t stalled._x000D_

So, it doesn’t surprise me that what you did helped.

If I can get this sorted id be happy to spend some time on how to take the IACV apart but really need to get this sorted first._x000D_

Think the knock sensor code is a decoy as even disconnecting it changes nothing so went to check some simple basics._x000D_

Well, for one make sure the spark plugs are all NGK or Denso. What did you pull out?_x000D_

Did you do a dry compression test followed by a wet compression test (by then adding a small amount of oil into the cylinder)?_x000D_

Compression doesn’t seem wrong to me,

Think they were Denso’s but will double check that tomorrow – whatever they were they looked like new along with the condition of the oil when I removed the rocker cover._x000D_

I see where you are coming from in relation to the IAC – I might try another one if I can find one but cant quite get my head around how the IAC will cause a lumpy missifre symptom compared to a high, low or fluctuating idle._x000D_

Set the valve clearances today and although they were out of spec the issue is still the same. Got some new plugs to try tomorrow 🙂

Based on your description you might still have a problem with the IAC, yes it may be clean but it may not be working as it should.

i cleaned the throttle body on my car and it set off a cel. i never did find out the code but the idle smoothed out after some driving.

Got the emissions checked today and after 1000rpm its fine but at idle its overfueling._x000D_

With that in mind I though I go back to basics so plugs swapped and lambda sensors checked too and all ok._x000D_

Are those wet or dry compression test numbers?

If the engine stalled when you sprayed the intake gasket I would say you have a vacuum leak.

Dry results on a heated engine but had no oil to do a wet so spent some time making a leak down tester instead !_x000D_

The inlet gaskets are 100% going to get changed but id like to know where my extra compression is going first as if the head has to come of

I wouldn’t worry about the compression as I feel that would have little to do with your idle problem, the intake gasket leak however will effect the idle and performance.

Yet to asses the head but the 8 valve shaped marks on the inlet sides of the pistones might give away what im expecting to find 🙁
